DCProximity helps you see how nearby U.S. data centers may affect your community — water use, electricity and utility costs, wildlife and land, and quality-of-life themes. This policy explains how the DCProximity iOS app, published by Judge Dean LLC ("we," "us"), handles information.
The app has no user accounts, no login, and no registration. We do not ask for your name, email, phone number, or any other identifying information; we do not build a profile of you; and we do not use any advertising, tracking, attribution, or analytics services. Public catalog hosting receives ordinary web requests as described below; we do not upload your private app content.
DCProximity requests only one optional permission: location, while using the app. Nothing else (no contacts, photos, microphone, notifications, or tracking) is requested. The app is fully usable without granting any permission.
If you tap "find data centers near me," the app asks iOS for your approximate location and uses it only on your device to calculate approximate distances to catalog map markers and to center the map. Your last map view is saved locally so you can return to it; it may reflect an area you located using GPS. We do not upload your GPS coordinates, saved places, or map position. Apple Maps and place search may contact Apple services under Apple’s privacy policy. You can revoke the permission at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services.
If you add a personal note or "experience" about a data center, that text is stored only on your device. It is not uploaded, published, shared, or visible to anyone else. Notes remain available after you close the app. You can edit or delete each note on its facility page. Saved facilities, preferences, your last map view, the downloaded public catalog, and which catalog changes you have reviewed are also stored locally. This information may be included in device backups controlled by your iOS settings.
DCProximity may offer an optional "tip jar." Tips are voluntary, unlock no features, and are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store's in-app purchase system, subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not receive your name, payment details, or any other personal information when you leave a tip.
The data center facts shown in the app (locations, water and power figures, construction activity) are read from our public, read-only catalog. Catalog downloads use HTTPS to judgedeanllc.com, hosted on GitHub Pages. We do not include your GPS coordinates, notes, saved IDs, preferences or an app-generated user identifier in those requests. GitHub receives connection information, including the requesting IP address, and states that Pages visitor IP addresses are logged and stored for security purposes. See GitHub Pages data collection and GitHub's Privacy Statement. This hosting behavior is separate from advertising or analytics, which we do not add to the app. The app stores the latest valid public catalog locally for offline use. Published figures require matched sources; unsupported figures are withheld. Opening a source link contacts its publisher under that publisher's privacy policy.
The map is rendered by Apple Maps (MapKit), which is part of iOS and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not receive any Maps usage data.
We do not sell private app content or upload your notes and saved places. Hosting providers may retain connection logs under their own policies; we do not set or promise a specific retention period for GitHub's security logs. If you choose to email a correction, the email service sends your address and the contents you choose to include to us. If you choose Share, iOS sends only the displayed public facility summary and sources to the destination you select; private notes are not included.
DCProximity is not directed to children under 13. The app does not request a child's name or contact information. The hosting and map service behavior described above also applies when the app is used by a child.
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and revise the effective date above. Material changes will be posted here before they take effect.
